Abstract: The regeneration of dental tissues is a crucial challenge due to the complexity in the structure and the dental diseases. However, nanotechnology has the potential to resolve this issue. The electrospun nanofibers have been used in dental applications such as tooth generation and prevention of dental caries. Large scale research studies have to be conducted to investigate the idea of using electrospun nanofibers in repair and regeneration of various dental and oral tissues including dental pulp, dentin, periodontal tissues, oral mucosa, and skeletal tissues. This study explores the possibility of creating a new methodology to regenerate patient’s damaged and decaying teeth. This research investigates infusing calcium-hydroxyapatite (C-HAp) and gentamicin into electrospun nanofibers, thus creating a non-woven nanofibrous tissue, which is then combined with a 50/50 solution of polycaprolactone (PCL). The nanofibrous structures were prepared and characterized by means of a scanning electron microscope, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy to determine porosity, cell adhesion capability, and chemical composition. Biocompatibility and anti-bacterial tests were conducted to check the viability of the material to be used to help propagate the regeneration of damaged dentin material in human teeth. The results of this study could lead to a new dental technique that would help us prevent our teeth in a better and more affordable way.
